Womens March

rbd_0294-4x6Another great version of this message: A woman’s place is in the revolution!

It’s All Fake

Womens March

rbd_0289-4x6How true is this:

Fake News

Fake President

Fake Cabinet

Fake Economy

I hope this type of message leads all of us to improve our critical thinking skills. And maybe more importantly, I hope it makes us all question how superficial our modern lives have become.

We The People

Womens March

rbd_0277-4x6Shepard Fairey’s beautiful posters were all over the Women’s March in Portland on Saturday, January 21, 2017. This one featuring a Muslim woman was one of my favorites, too. We the people are greater than fear. You can download and print your own here.

Not as artistic but certainly more direct is the message behind that one: save a pussy, f*ck the patriarchy. Indeed.

Womens March

rbd_0233-4x6We saw a lot of Alt-Wrong instead of Alt-Right signs, but these were the only people we noticed who put an economic spin on that. First, the enemy is the alt-rich and they own Trump. And just beyond them, Real reason for ACA repeal: 3.6% tax on alt-rich.

It’s hard to argue with the fact that the alt-rich own Trump, but let’s remember that rich people and rich companies own every politician in Washington, so Trump isn’t alone in this regard at all. We need to remove all the money and lobbyists from politics. That won’t be easy of course, because we’re asking people with their hands tied to the cookie jar to stop eating.

Did you notice the face of the young woman in the blue coat? What a great power pose for the camera! We couldn’t hear if she was growling or chanting, but it’s her future, her generation and others to follow, that will benefit most from positive changes we are able to make today. Just as the past helped shape today’s society, we are helping shape tomorrow’s.

54 40 Or Putin

Womens March

rbd_0209-4x6I loved these faces and luckily had the camera ready. I’m guessing that the 54 40 or Putin sign is a reference to the historical Fifty-Four Forty or Fight! slogan used in a mid-nineteenth century Oregon boundary dispute. That was before Oregon was a state, and even before the boundary between the US and Canada had been formalized. Parallel 54 40 is a line of latitude that today is the southernmost tip of Alaska (territory that the US bought from Russia), but 175 years ago there was talk of making the 54 40 parallel the northern border of the Oregon Territory. Those were heady days for expansionists, people who wanted to plant a flag and lay claim to everywhere they visited. I suspect that the gent in this photo has turned expansionism on its head, making the point that by hacking into our election Russia, and therefore Putin, has effectively taken back Alaska and annexed the executive branch of our federal government.

And then there are those awesome pink goggles on the woman in front of him. Shame they weren’t prescription lenses; she might have worn them instead of her glasses.
